St. David of Wales (+March 1, 589)

Commemorated March 1

St. David was a Welsh bishop during the 6thcentury. He was a native of Wales and was traditionally believed to be the son of St. Non and the grandson of a king of Ceredigion. He was a renown teacher, preacher, and founder of monastic settlements and churches in Wales and Brittany.

When St. David reposed, it is said that the monastery was “filled with angels as Christ received his soul.” His last words to his followers were in a sermon on the previous Sunday:  “Lords, brothers and sisters, be joyful, and keep your faith and your creed, and do the little that you have seen me do and heard about. And as for me, I will walk the path that our fathers have trod before us. Do ye the little things in life.”

The colors appear a bit muddy compared to the pictures on the website. However, it came in good time was well packaged. I bought this as a gift for my grandsons baptism.

I have long wanted an icon of this Welsh Saint as one I can pray to for my many Welsh ancestors. The quality of the icon is excellent.
