St. Rachel, Schemanun of Borodino Saviour Monastery (+1928)
Commemorated on September 27
Saint Rachel was a great ascetic who wandered all over Russia for many years, finally settling in Borodino Monastery, where she lived for 50 years. Through her communion with God and His Most Pure Mother, Eldress Rachel beheld many heavenly visions and had many Divine visitations. In her last years, the Saint was granted the gift of prophecy, and was able to see into the hearts of her spiritual children. Through her loving words of counsel for many sorrowful and suffering Russian people, she became a quick consoler and true directress. Even after her death in 1928, Eldress Rachel continues her miraculous intercession. She was locally canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church in 1996.
